Pros and Cons of Social Media.

Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook & Twitter, these a just a few of the array of sites that we have available for us in the world of social media. Over the years, the amount of people that have joined some form of social network has sky rocketed because of the outstanding connection we have with family, friends and people across the globe. But, with this power comes a number of Pros and Cons that I will list for you guys today.

I am going to start with the Pros, in our day and age, possibilities for us are endless, social medias like Instagram and Facebook are helping us push our possibilities even further. for example, many businesses (small and large) are using social media as an advertising tool to but their business out into the world. this will help them with bringing in income and creating a need for customers to buy their products. Another example of this is young people starting a YouTube channel to put videos out to the world about something they are passionate about, this can range from beauty gurus, gamers, comedic geniuses just to name a few of the many categories. once the names of these people start to hit off, they are hit with many different opportunities such as sponsorship deals. Another Pro of this asset is that it keeps us connected with our friends and family like never before. We are now able to FaceTime, text and even send photos and video messages to them all at the click of a button. It doesn’t matter if they are down the street or over the other side of the world, we are able to connect one way or another.

now to get onto the Cons, although the big wide world of social media may look like a blessing, there are many dangers to the big wide world of social media. By now, we all know that social media is perfect for communication, but things can easily be blown out of proportion. Texts, posts and snaps can all be chopped and changed and taken completely out of context. This doesn’t only impact the person receiving these texts, but also the sender. These things can easily get out of hand, all over something that started as a joke, and situations like this can get as serious as getting the police involved. People who get caught ‘cyberbullying’ also can receive numerous consequences that vary depending on the level of seriousness. in this day and age, cyberbullying is a massive problem that needs facing, things that are taken as a joke for some, are a lot more serious to others. People who don’t necessarily find these things funny start to get depressed, they can self harm or worse; commit suicide. Social media has also made the teens of today grow up dramatically fast and in some cases it isn’t for the best. Kids know way too much for their own good and this leading to peer pressure to do things, send things, getting young kids into trouble.

To summarise, the internet is a weird an wonderful asset that we have available to us, but if we are not careful, things will easily get out of hand and we will turn into robots, all the same and controlled by the untameable monster known as; social media.

Have you ever been cyberbullied? Did you have certain ways to deal with this issue? Share your tips in the comments and if you need further help follow this link:

#GAMEON Review.

#GAMEON is a 25 minute mini movie based around life at school with social media.

This clip followed the lives of a number of different people around the school and their involvement with the world of social media. The stories vary for every character, some have positive, and some have negative experiences with social media, online games and offers that are sometimes too good to be true.

As the film progresses, the characters that once thought that they were safe or strung up for a bargain soon realised that not everything is what it seems. throughout it is showing you the disadvantages of the online world; tearing apart friendships, losing money, having your identity stolen and losing what is most important to you. It shows you coping mechanisms and ways to deal with and/or stop the problem.

There weren’t many negatives to this program apart from the bad acting! There was also the fact that I feel as though it went on a little bit too long, as we have all seen this content before.

Personally, I feel as though this clip really did open my eyes to the fact that not all is what it seems. It taught me to not give away password or photos to people that I don’t trust, not to sign up for things without reading the Terms & Conditions and not to give my life away to the online world of gaming and social media. apart from the terrible acting… this was an eye opening view into the flaws on the online world.
